Harleysville is Open for Business!

If you haven’t heard, our newest branch is now open for your convenience.  To celebrate, we’re inviting you to the Grand Opening.

On Saturday, June 13, 2009, we’ll showcase the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certified branch with special events from 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon.

The highlight of the event will be Hall of Famer Herb Adderley of the Green Bay Packers!  Herb is a five time Pro-Bowl Defensive Back and played for Vince Lombardi.  He’ll be on site from 10 a.m. until 12 noon to sign autographs.

Bring your family and sign them up for membership!  When a new member or new account is opened, you’ll spin the prize wheel for one of several valuable prizes (over 17).  Youths (age 17 or younger) who become members will be automatically entered into a drawing for a Nintendo DSi!  Dollar Dog will be there to greet our guests and you can enjoy light refreshments.  Plus, take time to find out what makes this branch LEED-certified.  We’ll have signs and information inside the branch and even tips for helping you go green at home.

We look forward to celebrating with you on Saturday, June 13, from 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon!

Shredding Event at Chalfont

Once again, we’re offering members a chance to shred their documents at our office. On Thursday, June 18 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. the shredding truck will be at our Chalfont Branch to properly dispose of your documents. Not sure what you should shred and what you need to keep? Here are a few basic guidelines for some of the more common records you may have:

  • Dispose of credit card receipts after you have checked them with the statement, unless you need them for product warranty information or a disputed item.

  • Keep credit card statements for one year unless they contain tax information. You need them for seven years if they contain tax information.

  • Unless you have carry over time for vacation or sick time on your payroll stubs, you can dispose of them at the end of the year, after you check your year-end W-2.

  • Your credit union documents can be disposed of at the end of the year as well. Only keep records that contain information you need for taxes, business expenses and housing/mortgage payments. Save paper by opting for e-statements to make storage even easier.

  • In the event of loss or damage, keep receipts for major purchases for the time you have the item or until its warranty period has expired as proof of value.

The IRS has additional general information and also publication 552 with detailed retention periods and more specific answers.

NOTE - No plastic or books will be accepted.  Please limit boxes to no more than four.

We are planning a fall shredding event at our new Harleysville Branch, so if you miss this one, watch for our fall event!
